Passover is a Jewish holiday that commemorates the exodus of the Hebrews from Egypt and their ultimate emancipation from slavery at the hands of the Egyptians. Passover also coincides with the vernal equinox and, years ago, the spring barley harvest. Thus, Passover is not only a time of remembrance but also a time of celebration.
Passover celebrated on the 14th day of Nisan, the first month of the Jewish calendar, after sundown. Typically, Passover is celebrated for seven days in Israel, where Jews observe one Seder, and for eight days outside of Israel, where Jews observe Seder for the first two nights of Passover.
