A Dog for a Friend

I will tell you a history about a friendship between a dog and… a girl. This girl is me. I am 11 years old and every day, I look after Guismo -5 years old. But things have not always been like that. The story started in 1994, when a man and a woman settled close to my house. I was 6 years old. I did not know them well, but I met them in 1995 when she adopted a crossbreed dog –breed between a St-Bernard (good Samaritan) and a husky- she named Guismo. Yes, you got it: the same name as in the movie The Gremlins. Time passed. Only one wall separated the garden where Guismo is of mine. In 1997, I crossed it for the first time in front of the neighbour who offered me an ice-cream and allowed me to brush the dog.

These moments of pleasure became increasingly frequent until the day I could play with Guismo and take care of him whenever I wanted. I also got to know Edith and Daniel, my neighbours, much better. They are very nice people. Guismo and I grow up together now and share many adventures. I am not afraid of putting my hand in his mouth and he is not afraid of jumping on me when he wants to play. He comes when I call him, I go to his house when he barks. Listen, do you hear his voice? Can you hear it? Pay more attention…. close your eyes… do you hear now?

One day perhaps will you have the same chance as I had! Have a friend as I have, and just be separated by a wall. I really wish you be lucky as I am, in order to taste the joy of having such a friend, and understand how happy I am!
